CASE STUDY: Biocover

Design of parks which replaces streets in Warsaw, the capital city of Poland.

Target: Academic design, ASK, Warsaw University of Technology

Location: Warsaw, Poland

Year of the concept2014/2015

Used software: Rhinoceros3D, Grasshopper, DepthmapX, 3DS Max, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

Publication: www.bryla.pl

Biocover is a design of a new greenery network within a city. In the times of concrete buildings or streets, greenery is very desired. People demands walkable spaces and social areas. Thus I developed an idea to replace some streets with parks. The greenery imitates nature.

By analyzing cars movement within a city, we can declare which streets could be removed or reduced. In the city of Warsaw we can find plenty of such. I divided them into 5 categories, from streets with the lowest traffic data to streets with the highest traffic data.

Solar installation

The Solar System is an interactive installation for Copernicus Science Center

Group work

Project website:  http://system.asknow.eu/ex2014/

The “Solar System” is an interactive art and science all year outdoor installation. It is designed as a tribute to a polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. Copernicus, the patron of the Science Center, most known for the formulation of the heliocentric model, where the sun, rather than the earth is placed in the middle. This was a revolutionary approach at the time that completely changed the way of thinking about the world as we know it.

“The Sun” is placed in the central point, in front of the main entrance to the Science Centre. To help visitors imagine the size of the star, only a little fragment of the sphere is revealed, It forms a glowing dome. It is a unique piece of the exhibition in the same way the sun is unique within the solar system.

Each of the planets and their natural satelites is represented by a sculptural installation, based on their physical characteristics . They are placed on the respective orbits within the Science Centre surroundings.

Museum of Fire

The Museum of Fire is telling stories about fire and history of Zory, the city in Silesia Region, south of Poland.

Zory, Poland

GFA: 642 m2

Levels: 1 above, 1 underground

Project website: OVO-Grabczewscy

The Museum of Fire is telling stories about fire and history of Zory, the city in Silesia Region, south of Poland.

During medieval times the city was created inside a forest, which later, had razed. The name of the city was derived from this process, Zar – means fire, burn or flames. Bad name brought bad luck to the city, forcing the citizens to fight with fires. The most dangerous one, on 11th of May 1702, destroyed half of a city. To honor this day, the city Zory is helding a procession every year.

Fire became a base for the design of our museum.

The shape of the museum is defined by an underground pipline and obligatory laws and it reminds a fire.

Mobility Centre, Innichen

Train station and adjacent urban areas done with Groundlab and Plasma Studio.

Target: competition New Railway Station Area Master Plan Innichen/San Candido, Italy
Award: First Prize

Location: Innichen/San Candido, Italy

Architects: PLASMA Studio, Groundlab

Architect In Charge: Alfredo Ramirez

Design Team: Clara Oloriz, Peter Karl Pichler, Leila Meroue, Carmen Frances, Laura Riaño, Juan Torres , Marta Musial, Anna Vyazovskay

My part: design team, responsible for the design of main plaza and adjacent buidlings, partly responsible of organisational structure

„The project reorganizes the area around the train station due to its relocation closer to the city Centre. It involves the redesign of the station and all the infrastructural components such as , main crossing points for cars, pedestrians, bicycles and trains. At the same time the area in front of the old train station will be free up thus allowing the introduction of new programs with new activities for the town. The proposal uses this space to create a unique “Innichen showcase” where local products like bacon, mineral water, felt, linen, etc. are to be display. This territory works as a transition area and attraction for visitors and residents from the north of the municipality and beyond.”

Skyline Masterplan, Dubai

Master plan of a new district made with Groundlab and Praxis.

Target: realization for Landscape Concultancy Praxis Architect

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Architects: Praxis (Architecture), Groundlab (Landscape Architecture)

Year of Implementation: 2015-16

Site: 27.1579 ha

List of key functions and facilities: Hospital, Bridge, Park, Bolervard, Walking Paths.

Quadtree is proposed here as the concept for the landscape design in order to create comfortable outdoor areas to be inhabited at different times during the day and year. The concept enhances the existing grid and structure of the skyline master plan as the basis for a further subdivision into a smaller scale. The quadtree grid generates open, semi-open and enclosed modular spaces that can be used to create micro-climates at multiple scales, allowing a better control of the temperature and humidity in outdoor inhabitable zones such as the linear park and playground areas. The square prototypes/modules are designed as a catalogue that can be implemented on site linked to climatic conditions. The squares are related to shading and cooling techniques as well as local materials and create a material/pattern gradient in order to house different programmes and activities along the linear park and playground areas.

Target: ac-ca.org

Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina

Year of the concept: April – July 2012

Used software: Autodesk Autocad, Revit Architecure, 3Ds MAX, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator

The idea was to create an one building inside another with two different functions. First one, the insider, is a commercial area containing restaurant and shopping facilities. People are obligated to pass thrugh this area to enter some parts of the museum. The museum, which is the second building, is  the outsider, area of exhibitions, lectures or workshops.

The museum is situated within a line of existing buildings, near the Puente de La Mucher and next to the Fragata Sarmiento. The look of it is made with perfored acrylic stone in white color. The module of perforation is culled from the division of elevations in the nearest buildings. Multimedial screens are showing what is inside viewed from the outside.

A place for citizens, where they gather and do arts or learn. The building is situated in the city centre, in connection with medieval city walls. The project consists of three main elements: an old building made of bricks, which is converted, a modern building parts and a garden. The first element is a part of traditional, industrial character of Upper Silesia Region. It is called Familok and it used to be a housing for workers of the heavy industry. To save that heritage I designed a conversion – simply adding glass and metal elements, which underscores the character of the building.
